home security systems

a Smart Home is a Safe Home....

While a good security system should always be the heart of protecting your home, its functions can be enhanced by adding intelligence.

Let's face it  - we like to be in control!   And personally, I feel really good about my ability to be anywhere and monitor or manipulate things at home.

First of all, doing a decent self-installation of a security system isn't such a hard task.  If you just keep in mind that you don't really NEED all the bells and whistles that some security systems feature, it all really becomes quite simple.

After all, security panels merely monitor the presence or absence of low-voltage current. When someone opens the door or window, the circuit is broken - your security system knows!  Nothing difficult about that!

With a modular design, a security system does ONLY security.  The Automation System should take over when it comes to serious intelligence issues.  Why?

... because
Automation Systems are built for that very reason!
(Click here for info on how you can do this yourself!)

So by adding an Automation Controller, your basic security system can be greatly enhanced in a couple of ways:

1.   The home can be made even more secure ...

2.   The security system's features can be used to add convenience to your lifestyle.

Let's consider first of all Added Security -

Here are just some things you can do with a few add-ons to your home security system:

  • Save on expensive monitoring fees by directing alarm messages to your mobile phone, or to a neighbor.
  • Call in and listen to activity in your home.
  • Call in and speak over your stereo speakers to whoever is there.
  • See who is at the door before you answer
  • View your home's webcam activity from anywhere in the world.

As a matter of fact, how would you like it if you could take a cheap digital camera and, from anywhere in the world, view real-time video of your home or business? Better, what if a motion detector could prompt an immediate upload of snapshots or video to a website?

Well, it can be done!

And it's not all that expensive or difficult!

This way you not only can have the protection of a security system - you also can have the immediate knowledge of any events in your home that you deem necessary to know about.

All it takes is a digital camera, the right software, and an inexpensive website. (You don't even have be able to manage a website!)

Secondly, consider the Added Convenience -

The infrastructure of your security system offers an abundance of data for your home automation system:

  • Motion sensors detect movement for desirable automatic lighting control.
  • Voice prompts, beeps, or whatever cues you choose can make you aware of kids' activities (when they should be in bed!)
  • Receive calls letting you know when the kids get home from school.
  • Remotely arm & disarm the security system.

The best part is, you really can do all of this
on your own!

Now I've compiled a book which gives all the necessary background on how you can do this yourself!

Integrating the Smart Home and its Owner provides help with making cost-effective product choices, planning for full scale home automation (primarily with JDS Stargate ), and ...

Turning basic security into a "brainiac" security system.  (Click here to read more).
